Why is Board Self-Assessment Important? Engagement – An assessment requests input from all board members and then engages the full board in discussing the results and defining actions to be taken. Evaluation and Perception – Ah… the unexamined life. How are we doing? Do we all view our work the same way? Prioritization – What should we be focusing on? Beware of assessment tools that merely ask you to rate everything and then produce a long list of problem areas. You need to know where you are already strong, where you have opportunities to improve and which areas are worth investing your scarce time and resources. Candor - Our anonymous, on-line survey process allows board members to share their thoughts without having their name attached to them. Results are provided verbatim, so writing styles or pet topics may be identifiable to a person - this precludes absolute confidentiality. Reflection – Step back from the routine board reports and activities on an annual basis to explore how you can work smarter and leverage your efforts in support of your mission. Regular board self-assessment is commonly regarded as a "Best Practice". Why is All About Boards™ the Best Way? The www.AllAboutBoards.com Board On-line Self-Assessment Tool comes with three reports - a PowerPoint™ summary report for your Board presentation/discussion and "raw data" reports that shows all the detail of responses from the board and from your CEO/Executive Director. The board responses are not attributed to the respondent. In addition, the report highlights where the board's perceptions differ dramatically from those of the CEO/Executive Director. If you have more than two board members without internet access, the cost is only $25 extra for each survey response submitted by fax or mail. Please contact us with any questions or suggestions at: DISCLAIMER: Please keep in mind that we are serving as a conduit for feedback from your board and/or staff members. Responses are gathered by the computer and provided verbatim in the raw data report. Though feedback is rarely inappropriate, we are not responsible for any comments, words, or language people may use in their survey responses. In addition, we cannot guarantee confidentiality since respondents may unintentionally identify themselves through their comments. At all times, the liability of www.AllAboutBoards.com is limited to a refund of the purchase price, if you are not satisfied for any reason. © 2008 Charitable Advisors LLC - All Rights Reserved. |
